Precautions when performing 2-sided printing
Do not touch the paper during 2-sided printing until it is completely output. The paper is first partially output after the front side is printed, and then it is fed again to be printed on the back side.
Be sure to close the output selection cover before performing 2-sided printing.
Printing on the back side of paper whose front side is already printed
This printer enables you to perform 2-sided printing by manually inserting the back side of the paper* whose front side was previously printed even if the paper cannot be used for 2-sided printing.
When printing on the back side of paper whose front side was previously printed, flatten out any curled paper and load one sheet of paper at a time in the multi-purpose tray.
This is only for paper that has been printed using this printer. Also, you cannot print again on the same side of the paper that was printed before.
If you are using A5 paper, the back side may not be printed correctly.

To print on both sides of the page from your computer, load plain paper or Epson Bright White Paper, and select 2-Sided Printing (Windows) or one of the Two-sided Printing settings (Mac OS X).

For printers such as the PIXMA MX492 / MX490 without Duplex printing options in the mac OS X ® driver, the following instructions will walk you through how to print on both sides of a sheet of paper. Duplex Printing. From inside the application click File, then Print. In the Print Dialog Box select Paper Handling from the pop-up menu.

  1. Press the COPY button.

    The Copy standby screen is displayed.

  2. Press the Menu button.

    The Copy menu screen is displayed.

  3. Use the button to select Special copy, then press the OK button.

  4. Use the button to select 2-on-1 copy, then press the OK button.

    If a page size setting or a media type setting that cannot be used in 2-on-1 copying is selected, the LCD displays the following message.

    1. Use the button to select the page size, then press the OK button.

    2. Use the button to select the media type, then press the OK button.

  5. Use the (-) (+) button or the Numeric buttons to specify the number of copies.

    Change the print settings as necessary.

  6. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.

    • When the document has been loaded on the platen glass:

      When the machine finishes scanning the first page, the message below is displayed.

      If you have the next page to scan, load it on the platen glass and press the OK button.The machine starts copying.

      If you do not need more scanning, press the Tone button to start copying.The machine starts copying.

      Note

      • You can add the copying job while printing.

    • When the document has been loaded in the ADF:

      The machine starts scanning the next sheet of document automatically after one sheet of document finishes being scanned.

  • If Memory is full appears on the LCD when scanning, set the print quality to Standard or reduce the number of sheets of documents, then try copying again.If the problem is not resolved, set the print quality to Draft and try copying again.
